Your Weekly Dose of Tech: Here’s a simple post about the difference between the http versus https that you type in the browser address bar. The part where you type in the dot-com address and hit enter.

A protocol is a way of transmitting data across the Internet. The HTTP protocol connects your browser to the server that holds the data and plays back the data from the server to your browser. That’s how you view a web page.

On the other hand, an HTTPs request is a more secure way of connecting to a secure server (such as banks and payment gateways). No one can know what you’re looking for because the data is encrypted. We’ll get into security certificates and public keys in a later discussion.
